Introduction
Eight men faced a judge in Burlington Superior Court Monday on charges of luring minors for sex. They were netted during a four-day sting operation by police.
One by one, the men were arraigned by video in court, all accused of trying to lure kids into sex. Investigators posed as year-olds-- and in one case the mother of a year-old-- on online dating sites, chat rooms, Craigslist or a pay-for-sex site called Back .
Police say Gregory Curtis, 57, of Burlington, thought he was meeting a year-old boy for oral sex. He met cops instead.
Police say they found latex gloves and a knife on him. Ralph Desmarais, 38, of Winooski, is accused of trying to pay a year-old girl for unprotected sex. He told officers he was lonely and looking for company.
A South Burlington man allegedly tried to meet a year-old boy for oral sex. Sanel Masic, 29, told officers he only wanted to warn the teen about the dangers of meeting people online.

Police say Edward Shannon, 51, of Essex Junction, also wanted oral sex. He told arresting officers he wasn't wearing his glasses so he missed that they were posing as a year-old when he was corresponding online.
An agent posed as a year-old girl to allegedly get Jason Merritt chatting. Police say Merritt, 31, of Chicopee, Massachusetts, admitted during their chat that he was committing a crime, but was willing to meet her miles away.
He was arrested when he got here. Court papers show Zachary Rose, 26, of Milton, was reluctant to request sex when chatting through Backbut he eventually did.
Police found condoms on him. Rose told officers he only wanted to tell the teen he thought he was meeting that she shouldn't be doing this stuff. Police say Daniel Gabriel Infantes, 36, of South Burlington, also thought he was meeting a year-old.
He told officers he was drunk when asked for sex. And in what prosecutors call the most egregious case, an agent posed as the mom of a year-old girl, offering up her child for sex.
Police say Randy Sheltra, 55, of Alburgh, posted an ad on Craigslist looking for a mom and daughter. He described in detail what he'd do to them sexually.
Sheltra was arrested during the sting. .
